Sinners And Saints: Q&A with johnny

01. What was your reaction when you first read the script?
When I first read the script I thought this sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to take a crack at this.

02. This is your first movie in awhile, why did you want to do this one?
I've been offered other projects since Black Hawk Down, but nothing ever really grabbed me enough to break me away from what I've been doing for the last couple years....8yrs. This one got me interested, because I thought I could really apply what I'm good at to the project and elevate it to what I think it could be.

03. Was there anything you had to do in order to prepare for this particular role?
As far as the physical aspect of the role, I focused on sharpening my martial arts and weapons (guns/knives) training. The other aspects of the character, mentally and emotional, my philosophy is to immerse myself into my understanding of the character, and just be.

04. What can you tell us about your character, Sean Riley?

Sean has had an emotional roller coaster of a decade. From his experience in the military, serving in Afghanistan, then Iraq, to his homecoming to a hurricane ravaged New Orleans; Sean had been through the ringer. Then to go through the death of his son, and divorce from his wife, Sean has been pushed over the edge, and is close to losing it.

05. Was it hard for you to get into the character of Sean, or are there similarities between him and yourself?
Characters, unless based on real life people, are given life based on their circumstances, and in my opinion, by the actor. So in essence the actor is, or becomes the character. So, yeah, we have allot in common. But are different based on circumstance, if that makes any sense.

06. If Sean was a real person, would you be friends with him? Why/Why not?
I can count my friends with ten fingers, so maybe, maybe not. Acquaintance maybe?

07. Why did you want to work with Will Kaufman?
Will and I have know each other for a while. I saw his first film the prodigy, which he used some of my music for, and I thought he was a talented director. He sent me the 'sinners' script and I was blown away, it had all the things that I love about movies. So I felt it was a perfect situation for me to do what I love to do.

08. The film is currently in production, what has been your favorite part so far?
The entire shoot has been great, no lie, from the cast to the crew it has been one of the best experiences for me as an actor.

09. For the people out there who are familiar with your work, but not familiar with Kaufman and the other cast members, what can they expect from this film?
People should expect a gritty action thriller that takes no prisoners.

10. The cast of Sinners and Saints has some really well known actors such as Tom Berenger, Udo Kier and Kim Coates, among others. What's it like working with them?
That was one of the most exciting processes when we were putting the movie together, the days when the one after the other, these great actors signing on to be apart of the movie. Everyone has been exceptional to work with. Kim Coates, Sean Patrick Flannery, Kevin Phillips, Tom Berenger, Costas Mandelar. They all have brought their A game to this project.

11. Do you have any upcoming film projects after Sinners? If so, what can you tell us about them?
I don't like planning to far ahead, I'm going to take some time to train in martial arts and if something comes up I'll take a look at it. Will and I have talked about doing another movie which would be great, I love working with him.

12. What's coming up for Operator?
It's a secret.

Hope this answers them, I'm going to do a video blog with these questions as well as some others, that we can use for the site.

Soon,
JS
